Hirscht Micromachines Nano-Tech Could Cure Cancer, But Are They Too Late?

(Tualatin) It has been fifty-two years since scientists developed molecular and genomic treatments that largely control cancer—except in several of the most virulent strains. Taulatin-based Hirscht Micromachines, a bio-digital tech company leading the way in nanotechnology, may have solved the problem. Using microscopic machines injected in a syringe, researchers claim to be able to repair cellular damage as it begins, before cancer has a chance to establish itself.

“Think of it like this,” said CEO Ryan Hirscht III. “Each one of these nanobots is like a microscopic janitor, peeking in on every cell in your body like they were empty rooms. If they see any anomalies like pre-cancerous cells, they immediately fix the problem. Like taking out the garbage.”

The treatment would be used as a vaccine for people with genetic markers for the certain forms of carcinoma that remain deadly. The nanobot treatment lasts ten years, and would normally be given around a patient’s 40th birthday. The nanobots are self-sustaining, thriving on chemical energy used by feeding on blood glucose. Booster shots would be given each decade throughout the patient’s life.

The real question for Hirscht Micromachines is whether the breakthrough will have real commercial application. Cancer has become a niche disease, afflicting just three million Americans a year. By far the major form of mortality in the United States is now linked to malnutrition resulting from failing crops and water shortages. The company has teams of scientists working to address these problems as well, including a nanobot treatment that would make muscle tissue more efficient—a direct treatment for people getting too few calories a day. That treatment is years away, though, says Hirscht. “We’ll get there, definitely—I just hope it’s in time to help.”

Meanwhile, Hirscht is taking a moment for a victory lap. “We cured cancer. That’s a huge accomplishment. Our grandparents wouldn’t have believed it’s possible. No matter what else you might say, this is a watershed moment.”
